If the first one is wrong because of the word "from," can you explain why please?why is it wrong to use from? Is there a rule or something?

I want to say "he" ridiculed the boys. I know my first sentence is wrong, but my question is why is it wrong? And to be more specific, why is it wrong to use "from" instead of "by?"

The first sentence seems to be a kind of word to word translation from the first language into English. It is not correct.
