Which sentence is better?

Hi, please tell me which of the following two sentences is better.

(1) I cannot afford to buy a car for financial reasons.

(2) I cannot afford to buy a car for economical reasons.

Also, is there any difference in meaning between these two examples?

Top answer

I'm not aware of any nuance of difference. My style, however, would be to put "for *** reasons" at the beginning of the sentence. Otherwise, it seems to modify 'car' rather than the ability to buy.

[I am particularly aware of this in death notices which say, "there will be no services at John's request." My question then is, "O.K., where will they be?"
