Which sentence do you like more, or hate less.

Both might sound confusing, ambigious, I think.

Files that contain info about what has been downloaded from a homepage are sent to Alexa with the help of Alexa toolbar.

Maybe this sounds clearer.

The verb looks a little strange to me. I would say:

1. Alexa toolbar facilitates the sending of files that carry information about what has been downloaded from a homepage to Alexa.

The "sending" doesn't "carry information"; the files do.

In "the sending of files that", 'sending' and 'that' belong together -- yes, indeed.
In "the sending of files carrying" the files carry. Do you know any other paraphrase which include 'that'?
By the way, why is 'transmit' better than 'send'?

"the transmission of files" => 834 Google hits

"the transmission of data" => 1,810,000 hits

"the sending of data" => 51,000 hits

Transmission as a noun from the verb "to transmit" is much more commonly used than "sending" from "to send".
