Fine. Higher register to my ear. And more emphasis on a longer journey. I use route more from one major city to another -- not so much for relatively shorter trips within a single smaller region. The answer to "shortest route" seems to me to be some highway number(s). "Take Highway 9 to X, then Highway 11 to Y
