Which question is correct?

Last week, I asked my friend about his brother, Dave. This was my question.

(1) I asked, "After Dave had his wisdom tooth taken off, how long did he wait to eat?"

My friend was confused by my question and revised it a little.

(2) He said his revised question, "After he had his wisdom tooth taken off, how long did he wait before he ate?"

We are not native English speakers. Whose question is correct? Thanks a lot.

You have a tooth taken out – not off . When you've had a tooth extracted, you still have to eat, though it's quite a while before you can chew on the side of the mouth where the gap is. #(2) is the better way to ask your question.
