Which punctuation should be used after take sth as an example?

Dear Madam/Sir

I am confused by the use of a puctuation after take sth as an example. Here are two sentences.

1.

A good parent should possess some good qualities, especially when facing her children. Take my mother as an example of a model parent. She is patent, kind and hard-working. Not only does she take good care of me, but she also encourages me to study and work hard in order to realize my dream.

I read those two paragraph in the same textbook but the use of a puctuation is different.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Faithfully,

Lucy Liu

Hi In my opinion, the colon ( : ) would be accurate in this case since you'll explain why she's a model of parenting.
