Which pronoun is correct, I or me?

'The winners of the contest were Chris and I / me.'

This one can go both ways. Invert the sentence and you have: Chris and I were the winners of the contest. Conversely, you could have 'The winner of the contest was Chris'; The winner of the contest was me (not 'I').' So which is correct?

Thank you.

Both are correct. The subjective case is less common and more formal. We’ve already covered this, haven’t we?

Don't remember. I'm forty-eight years old. There's been a diminution of my mental faculties of late. You know what I mean?
