I know it's probably only partially a grammatical question, but what personal pronoun would you use when talking about "soul" in a context like "the souls of the dead"? For instance, a certain Juliette dies. Do I say,
1) her soul entered the other world and it was received by a large crowd of other souls
or
2) her soul entered the other world and she was received… (etc.) ?
Is 1) or 2) the correct answer? Or at least, is one more often used than the other, and then usage depends on what? Could you share your insight with me, please? Thank you.
Top answer
Well, I don't associate a soul or a spirit with a particular gender. So I would use "it" as a pronoun.
