Which option is better with content provided?

Option 1 is the way the passage is now but is Option 2 clearer and better by saying "attempt to ascend" instead of "ascension" due to the content of the two sentences?

1.From 413 AC to 416 AC, Beryllinthranox’s search for magic continued unabated until she and the other overlords were requested to aid Malystryx in the red dragon’s ascension to a form of godhood. However, the intervention of the group of adventurers known as the Heroes of the Heart resulted in the overlords’ plans being thwarted at the Window to the Stars in 416 AC.

2.From 413 AC to 416 AC, Beryllinthranox’s search for magic continued unabated until she and the other overlords were requested to aid Malystryx in the red dragon’s attempt to ascend to a form of godhood. I would stay with Option 1. The failed attempt is covered in what follows, so there's no need to hint that it was just an attempt. There's nothing really wrong with Option 2, however.
