Which option is better?

Which option is better? And is it clear that the "his elder brothers" refers to Palin?

1. Tanin and Sturm were part of a contingent of Knights of Solamnia that was slain by an invading force of Dark Knights in a battle at Thoradin Bay. Palin was attached to the band of Solamnics as a mage, and was captured and brought back to Solace by the Dark Knight Sturm Brightblade with the bodies of his elder brothers, at the same time that the young heir of the elven nations, Silvanoshei Caladon, was born to the exiled rulers Porthios Kanan and Alhana Starbreeze in the Inn.
