Which one to use: live or lived

Hi all.

Yesterday I tried to make a story using past tense and past continuous. But I am not sure which one to use in my case.
Part of my story is:

I went to Bali two years ago with my cousins. In Bali, I met my friend who lived near our hotel......

In that sentence, which one should I use: lived or lives? The fact is he still lives there till now. But I'm confused since my story is in the past.

Thank you

lawn2llawn2 I'm confused since my story is in the past. A story in the past need not have every verb in the past. You can use the present if what you're saying is still true in the present.

  • A story in the past need not have every verb in the past.
  • You can use the present if what you're saying is still true in the present.
  • And you can also use the past if you want.
  • Both are OK in this case.
