Which one is the most natural?

How to describe the situation in which you put your foot on an insect or a bug in order to kill it?

I trampled an insect.
I stepped on an insect.
I crushed an insect?

"trampled" is used for grass or vegetation (It does not kill.)
"Crushed" is OK.

Informally:

Actually, I believe that trampled is used in cases like "the runner was trampled to death during the running of the bulls". It does, however, imply a larger scale (either by weight or by number), and certainly wouldn't be used in the instance proposed by the original
