Which one is right or or more commonly used?

1. I was washing the dishes.

2. I was washing dishes.

Is there any difference between those two sentences?

Someone in Korea said that No.2 is used when the person 'I' does the dishes as an occupation.

Is it right? I am curious to know.

Thank you.

That means no.2 is usually used for only at work?

I was researching myself using Google search. And I found in a lot of examples, No.2 sentence is used for situations other than at work. Is it right that No.2 is used mainly for at work?

Thank you for your answer.

Based on all the research I have done, I made a conclusion that No.2 sentence includes doing the dishes for both at home and at work.

I used Google search and all I found about No.2 sentence indicates that it can be used in any situation where you just do the dishes either at work or at home.

If you anyone of you has any other idea, please let me know.

Thank you.
