Which one is more used?

I'm having trouble; i just want to know which one is more used, silent or mute for a person unable to speak by physical limitations.

Hey Dude,
Mute is used more often to describe a person who is not able to speak. Silent is not used in that sense. A person remains silent by choice.

In British English the word "dumb" used to be used for people unable to speak, but it is less so now because the American (and old English) use of the word to mean "stupid" is more widespread and it would be considered politically incorrect for someone with a speach impairment.
