Which one is more correct?

Can you look at these three sentences and tell me whether or not they are OK? If 1 and 2 are OK, please tell me why they are so.

1. You should/must/can put an article in front of those words.

2. You should/must/can put the article in front of those words.

3. You should/must/can put articles in front of those words.
