Which one is correct?

The teacher would prefer the students to spend time on reading rather than camping at weekends. or

The teacher would prefer the students to spend time on reading rather than go camping at weekends.

I'm not sure because I have learned that : would prefer + to V. .....rather than V.
For example, My father prefers to play tennis rather than swim.

That's a minor detail. You will be understood very nicely whether or not you use "to" with the second verb. Leave out "to" if your teacher prefers it like that.
