Which one is grammatically correct?

a.) The question is, how the hell do they explain themselves afterwards?
b.) The question is, how the hell are they going to explain themselves afterwards?
c.) The question is, how the hell will they explain themselves afterwards?

Sentence a. sounds OK to me. (Not sure about the comma, though.)

Sentence 'a' would be ok only if it were a part of a story, e.g. in a book, a film or a joke. If not, we don't use present simple to express future in this situation. Best Regards.
