Which one is fine?

Hi teachers,
Which one is fine? For me letter 'a', because is plural.
a) What were his mouth and nose like?
b) What was his mouth and nose like?

But then we say, 'Where is his bag and his dog?'. Though one thing is an object and the other an animal, and the above sentence is referring to two things on the face, isn't it?

Thanks in advance.

Though was doesn't sound completely wrong to me, I would stick with were just to be on the safe side. You can't go wrong there. What were his mouth and nose like?

Hi, TS,
Thinking SpainHow about this one, 'Where is his bag and his dog?'. Singular should be applied. Right?
Either is possible, but again, I would use were.
