Which one is correct?

The institution of marriage has faltered/ has been rocked in the recent years.

(I am trying to say that it has weakened due to the increasing no. of divorces.)

amethystK I am trying to say that it has weakened due to the increasing no. of divorces Then use 'weakened', for heaven's sake! Why use words than other those you mean?
