Neither is correct. 'I' is always capitalized and 'gonna' is not a word.

Hi,

If you ask us to spend our time checking your English, it seems to me that it would be good manners to write your post in the best English you can, instead of expecting us to ignore some errors because you think they are unimportant.

the "errors" are irrelevant. this is 2012. no one uses proper punctuation online. my grammar was finen. the question was understandable.. what's the big deal?

The big deal is that this is an English grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and spelling site. We help people learn the standard language so that they can get jobs and communicate in a competent manner. Go elsewhere if you do not care about those things.

Ok, I'm sorry. Which one is correct: "Why would I play if I weren't going to try?" or "Why would I play if I wasn't going to try?"

Thank you for your help.

I would add that you did ask which sentence was correct. As Mr. Micawber pointed out (and I was ready to do myself before seeing his reply), neither was correct, for several reasons. In fact, to many people the errors you made and expected us to ignore were "worse" than the one you were asking about. Are we supposed to be mind readers, and choose the one error out of several in your post

weren't is usually considered "more correct" or "more formal" after "if", but both are acceptable in casual conversation.

It really depends on who answers. Everyone has a different personality and different priorities. Some people write one or two words as replies. Some write volumes.
