Which one is correct?

I have the following hypothetical sentence and I am not sure how to express properly. Can anybody help me?

Moreover, which verb applies better here, should or had to?

The 3rd fragment is the only one that sounds good to me, but the ending clause sounds worse than the beginning clause. You should at least supply the complete sentence for adequate judgment.

The 3rd fragment is the only one that sounds good to me, but the ending clause sounds worse than the beginning clause. You should at least supply the complete sentence for adequate judgment.

The complete sentence would be smth like this:

"if from the history of photography the most complete and cohesive set of photographs should be selected, I believe, this should be the book of J.R."


I simplified the sentence. However, I am not sure where the phrase “from the history of photography” should be positioned. After if as it is or after the verb?

I'd do this ( I am supposing that JR is a photographer and that he published a book of his photographs):

If from the history of photography the most complete and cohesive set of images were to be selected, I believe it should be the book by J.R.
