Which is correct :

1.If I hadn't taken a taxi, I might have been waiting for you at the train station for hours.

2.If I wouldn't have taken taxi,I would have been waiting for you at the train station for hours.

the 1st sentence is correct it`s 3rd conditional, which has the following structure:
If + Past Perfect , would + have + Past Participle (we don`t use would after "if", only Past Perfect in this case )

To me both are right.

Many sentences can be written starting with 'if' without following the rules.

In addition : For each english grammar rule there is an exemption !!

I wonder what your criteria are for claiming the correctness of the second sentence. Being understood? If so, then you're probably right, but I would never say that this is a correct sentence in English.

That's true that there are numerous exceptions to narrow grammatical rules, yet I think that there are certain reasons for them, at least for a great majority of them. And I just don't
