which one is correct?

Hi,

I asked many questions on the usage of articles but this one still baffles me, Help.

Which one is correct?

I received English education.

I received an English education.

I think you can say, "I had a great education", without any further details or modifications. It surely helps to have a phrase to modify like "I had a great education in history" but in itself doesn't determine whether there is a need for an article like "a".

BUT in regard to the phrase "English education", does it need an article like "a"?

I received English education.

I received an English education.
