Which one is better? Why?

"He played poker with four of his friends every evening."
vs
"He played poker every evening with four of his friends."

It seems to me that the second one is better. I can not really place my finger on the exact reason.

I think it is to with what you stress on. In the first one you want to stress on with whom you played poker, and in the second sentence it is when you played poker.
