Only 'me' seems natural to me in that particular sentence. Some would prefer 'were' to 'was'.

""If this was me asking you for help would you do it?" makes more sense to me. It would sound funny for some to tell me "If this was my asking you for help would you do it" in a conversation.

This is not a gerund construction. You are not hypothesizing about my act of asking.
It's a reduced relative clause. "who was" is the omitted part.

If this was me (who was) asking you for help, ...?
