Which one?

Hi teachers,

Which one of the below is correct?

The food may be good at that restaurant, but it's quite a lot expensive.

The food may be good at that restaurant, but it's far too expensive.

I think both of them are OK, but what makes the first sentence wrong here?

The second one is correct. A lot is used as a noun phrase ( A lot has changed since then ) or before an of phrase ( a lot of restaurants ). It is not used as a modifier.

You can't have "a lot" before a noun or adjective. "a lot sugar", "a lot poor", "a lot people", "a lot expensive" — all wrong.
