Would you please help me here?
Which one is correct?

I need twenty eight-foot two-by-four to repair my fence.
I need twenty eight-foot two-by-fours to repair my fence.

I need twenty eight-foot two-by-four lengths (of wood) to repair my fence.
I need twenty eight-foot two-by-fours to repair my fence.

Both are now possible.

Hmm. I assumed that "two-by-four" cannot be placed as a noun. So, I guess "two-by-four" has plural 's because of twenty. Right?
But, I wondered how? It is somehow describing something with dimensions, and describing is the work of adjectives.
Would you please explain that?
