Which kind of clause?

Hi!

>John was walking faster than those cars were moving.

Which kind of clause is "those cars were moving"?

My guess is noun clause because it can be replaced with "that".

Top answer

John was walking faster than [those cars were moving]. The bracketed clause is a comparative one. It functions as complement to the preposition "than".
