I think 1) is the best answer,but I do not know why.

My teacher said" 'from' is preposition and noun follows it."

But 'ago' is adverb.

Nouns do follow prepositions, and the phrase 'long ago' can serve as a noun (see [url=http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ago?show=1&t=1289731614] HERE[/url]).

#1 (ago) is the best answer and the usual choice, but actually #3 (past) is also possible:
