May I know which is the correct sentence below?

Some priests in training find the going tough.
Some priests undergoing training find the going tough.

I don't know, but they use hyphens much more than we do, and they would fit there.

With the hyphens, it suggests to me that I am categorising them as 'being-trained-priests'. Without the hyphens it suggests to me that the 'in training' is very similar in meaning to 'during training'.
