Which is the better sentence? And should "Earthquake" be in capital as shown?

1. Ninety years ago, on 1 September 1923,, the Kanto Earthquake occurred.

a, Which is the better sentence?
b. Should "Earthquake" be in capital as shown?
c. Are the commas needed?

a) I slightly prefer (1). b) As far as I can tell, the most usual English name for this disaster is "the Great Kanto Earthquake". c) Yes, or at least very desirable.

Some people would write 'Earthquake', others "Earthquake". It's a matter of personal choice though, if you are writing for publication, your publishers may insist on their rules.
