Which is subject? and who or whom?

Hi. Which is the subject in this sentence?

This is a chair.

What should we used. whom or who?

This is the John Doe who/whom we wanted to get to know better.

How about this? Are the above and this alike in sentence pattern?

This is the person who/whom we saw at the mall yesterday.

Would it make a difference if the word "this" in both sentences italicized were changed to "There"?

Thank you for your anticipated help.
