Which is right to say....?

1- My sister has two teaspoons but I have less than her, only one.

2- My sister has two teaspoons but I have fewer than her, only one.

For countable things like teaspoons, it should properly be "fewer". However, many people don't understand this rule, or ignore it, so you will often hear "less". I would consider using a dash or a colon in place of the comma.

  • Because there is only one positive number less than two anyway, and because of the oddity of having such small numbers of teaspoons, or caring about it, the sentence seems a little odd to me.
