Which is right: in an elevator or on an elevator

Hi,
When I say she's hiding in the elevator to get away from people, I reckon 'in the elevator' is right. But if I mean she is riding an elevator, which is right?
She is on an elevator? or She is in an elevator?
You can talk the guy on an elevator? or You can talk the guy in an elevator? or You can talk the guy in the evelator?
What is the correct expression in this case?
Thanks in advance.

"Riding in an/the elevator" is the common expression, but, as you suggest, it's possible to say "she's riding the elevator."

"You can talk to a/the guy in an/the elevator" is correct.

In is always the correct preposition.

You are clearly enclosed within a very confined space.
