Which is natural?

I'm Hideko from Japan.

Please tell me.

(1) What is this flower called in English?

(2) How do you say this flower in English?

What id the difference between (1) and (2)?

Which is more natural?

(1) is OK. (2) is intelligible, and would be understood to mean the same as 1, but logically it's not quite right. You cannot "say this flower".

  • You cannot "say this flower".
  • Instead, you say the name of the flower.

I think (2) would be "How do you CALL this flower in English?" We don't "say" a flower. We say a prayer or we say grace or we say a word or two.

This isn't quite right. It would have to be "What do you call this flower in English?"
