which is more courteous? should you have questions or if you have questions

i was wondering which is more courteous between the two? Also, which is more widely-used. thanks.

I see no difference in courteousness. Should seems a bit more formal to these American ears; I suspect that it is commoner in British English.

I am of the opinion that if 'should' is used, then it indicates a distant possibility. So a question is not expected, but should it come up, then it will be answered, etc.

If doesn't include that idea of distant possibility.. so it doesn't say that questions are not expected. It leans a bit more towards their expectancy.

But the difference is very subtle.
