Which is correct: as writer or as a writer?

Hi all,

I came across the following sentences:

They may request your name as writer.

I am working as a writer.

It's quite confusing when I have to add an article after as or not.

Cheers and have a good day.

Thanks for the reply. 'The' made it clearer and more natural, but I actually came across the first sentence in a book (more formal writing, in business proposals or publishing materials). I am seeing these patterns a lot, so there must be a good explanation why we use it this way.

Good day!

Yes the isn't really required here and is more formal without. I just put it in as way of an explaination and to make it more like a spoken sentnece rather than a written one.
