I would say that D is the best answer, but it is not a good answer because it is creates a redundancy. Of course, illustrations are visual. That choice is so silly, you might want to try one of the other answers, but none of them is good.

I agree: it's just not a good question. My guess is that children like pictures in books for the same reason that adults, if they want to know how change a car battery, will look on YouTube. Words and pictures naturally go together

I was about to mention that when I used to teach music, I would often illustrate a musical principle by playing something on the piano. Nothing visual was involved. Even a blind student would have understood.

So are we saying that what I did was not an illustration of the principle?
