Which is correct?

I don't understand why 1 is grammatically correct? It isn't symmetrical . the longER ... the brightER is symmetrical.

1The bulb gets brighter the longer you leave it on.
2The longer you leave the bulb on, the brighter it gets.
If you want to say
The bulb gets brighter
shouldn't you go with "The bulb gets brighter as you leave it on"

This one is grammatical, but it's very uncommon.

Of course #2 is grammatical, natural, and common.
