Which is correct?

Hi

Say I win a raffle for the first time in my life and go to collect my prize, do I say " I've never won anything before.", or "I'd never won anything before."?

Thank you

Because there's before in the sentance.

I have (I've) never won anything before.

If you were telling the story, after it happened you can use 'I had (I'd) :

"I went to a raffle game last Monday, and even though I had never won anything before, I really felt lucky that day."

Veronica 222 is wrong.
If there is no context given, you normally use:
I have never won anything before. (present perfect).

Thanks for your replies, folks.

So if I won, when I went to collect my prize I could say: "Wow. Thanks. I've never won anything before."?

Hi,

Yes, that's what would normally be said.

Perhaps the speaker is subconsciously thinking of it this way.
They are handing me the prize today, ie in the present, so my winning is a present event.

Thanks. So, if the person said "Wow. Thanks. I have never won anything.", would that be correct too?

No, not if he has just won something!
