Which is correct?

Can anybody tell me which among these two sentences is correct and give me the rule .

I have visited the place this moring and it was a nice place
I have visited the place this morning and it is a good place...

I would say

I visited the place this morning and it was a nice place.

But there's nothing wrong with saying it is a nice place at the end.
