Which is correct?

Hello.
Last year`s savings could cover the expenses of the journey.
But if I say :
The savings of last year could cover the expenses of the journey. is it grammatically correct?

The same question for these four sentences:
All Nick wanted was to get his money`s worth.
All Nick wanted was to get the worth of his money.-correct? if not,why?

Carol was amazed to see the walls of the room painted in red.
Carol was amazed to see the room`s walls painted in red.-correct? if not,why?

Mathematics is not easy to learn,I know, but it ia time you made some progress.
Here my question is why the verb `made`is on the past and not in the present `make`?
If I put the verb in the present the sentence is no longer correct?
