Consider this.

First you become something. After that, you are something.



eg

I hated becoming a teacher. Teacher's college was very difficult.

After that, I hated being a teacher. My students were all brats.

So I became a dance instructor.

I like being a dance ins

so you say:

I hated being everyone's chosen one.

and

I hated becoming everyone's chosen one.

both are past as I said. But the first one refers to a period of time while the second one to the moment of becoming.
