Which food is high-calorie?

1. Which food is a high-calorie?
2. Which food is high-calorie?

Hi

I asked this question in WR forum but I received different answers. Some native English speakers said both of them are wrong and some said #2 is correct.

I'm confused now. What's your opinion?

Thank you.

There is no question that #1 is wrong. I would accept #2 in a context where only one of a specified group of foods is high-calorie. I see the objections to using "high-calorie" predicatively that are expressed in the other thread.

  • I believe that under strict scrutiny these objections have some validity, but that in ordinary contexts the vast majority of native speakers would read it without noticing any problem.
