Hi~ I need your help for a few things. The words and sentences below are confusing to me about the meaning.
Just for helping your understanding the context, I put this seemingly long paragraph.
Please look at my questions and share your opinions about them. I apprecite them in advance.
Q1: Which meaning seems to be better for the words "subject matter" in this context?
Topic OR academic discipline like English, math ? I thought it as "topic" but am not sure.
Q2: Can I understand the first sentence of second paragraph like this? If you have any better idea to understand the sentence in natural way, please let me know.
For automation to truly be solidified, teacher should not extend the period of reviewing unless students can recall prior automated information.
Q3: Which of the interpretations are better for the meaning of the phrase "every few days, then weekly, then monthly" ? This question needs the contex most, I think. Please read the whole content for this question.
1) The review process is done for example, on Monday and Thursday...(after a few days have gone), and then is done once a week, and then, once a month.
2) The review process is done first for a few days on a daily basis (for example, Monday through Wednesday), and then is done for the whole week, and then is doen for the whole month.

Many teachers engage in a review process only at the beginning and the end of the academic year. However, for the process of achieving automation, such an approach is counterproductive. It is ongoing bursts of repetition that changes the brain structure to produce automation. Teachers should consider the review at a dedicated time, limited to 5 minutes per subject matter daily. For example, if a section of the curriculum lasting 2 weeks mandates that students be able to recall six new terms and their meanings, then during that 2-week period, the teacher will review terms and definitions for the first 5 minutes of class each day.
For automation to truly be solidified, students cannot go through any extended period of time without recalling prior automated information. Initially review should be every few days, then weekly, then monthly. This means that the teacher must carefully design daily reviews that will produce automation of new material in the allotted time while rotating prior core information into the daily review process. For example, after spending 2 weeks reviewing the six new terms and their meanings, the next section of the curriculum requires students to be able to recall two formulas that will have to be put into practice throughout the remainder of the school year. The teacher will focus the review process on the automation of the two new formulas during the week but will weave the six terms learned earlier into the review process. This can be achieved by including a different term each day. Over time, the material introduced earlier will not have to occur as frequently but will never be completely omitted.
