Hello Everybody,

Please could you tell me which of these sentences is correct and why?

- Before a week ago until now I am trying to solve a mathematic problem.

- Before a week ago until now I have been tried to solve a mathematic problem.

IMO: For a week now , I am trying to solve a/this mathematic al problem. For a week now , I have been trying to solve a/this mathematic al problem. I'd say the 2nd is the most appropriate one, as the present perfect is the most fit for such a situation, but the first would be also acceptable.
