Which bold word/s should I use?

On the fourth week my dad's brain infection and rashes were gone/cured. The recovery journey was a difficult but progressive one. Initially, his doctors and therapists were not optimistic about his condition and had predicted that my dad would most likely be bedridden and cognitively impaired for the rest of his life.

Which bold word/s should I use? If neither, what word/s are appropriate? Thanks.
