Whether singar or plural ?

Please see the following sentence.
" What most workers in our division look for in a lunch menu is low-priced items."

In that sentence, what clause is the third person singular but the object of low-priced items is plural. (1) Is it a wrong sentence ?

If correct, Can I express like this.

(2) They are a doctor. Make sense ?
(2) It is them. Make sense ?

Whether verb should be singular or plural depends on only subject's.
