Whether or not (it) is an improvement

The current message being conveyed is an alternative to the message I am hoping you can confirm whether or not (it) is an improvement.

Do we need to include 'it'? If so, is my reasoning below correct?

The verb 'confirm' requires an object - a noun. Without 'it', the underlined sequence is not a clause and thus not a noun.

Thank you

Hi Clive, I don't believe it is a run-on sentence. I have added in the word 'that' to hopefully show this is one sentence. Now that you know this, I presume your original answer is still yes? Thanks

I'm struggling to make sense of this.
The current message is an alternative to which message?

The current message being conveyed is an alternative to another message. This other message is one that I emailed to you asking if it was an improvement over the current message.

Hope that makes sense

I agree with Clive, you must add 'original', 'previous','first' or 'other', and it needs a period after the word 'message'. The way you have it written just doesn't make sense. Using 'that' does not change the fact that it is a run-on sentence.

The current message (being conveyed) is an alternative to the original message. I am hoping (that) you can confirm whether (or not) it is an imp

Hope that makes sense Sorry, not to me. I'm completely confused by the sequence of events. I'm not even sure how many messages are involved. 2, or 3?

I have simplified the sentence, as I realize the original was too confusing. Sorry about that.

The message being conveyed is an alternative to the message I am hoping you can confirm whether or not (it) is a good message

There are two messages:

1. The message being conveyed (the alternative to #2)
2. This message is the one I am hoping you can confirm whether

It's still confusing because the sentence structure is wrong.

Does "the message being conveyed" mean the message we are reading, at this very moment?
or
is it an attachment to this message we are currently reading?

"...is an alternative to the message..." - what message? The one we are currently reading? or a previous message that is not part of your post?

This is grammatically correct. You cannot include it because the subject of the is clause is the relativized element in the relative clause.

the message (which) I am hoping you can confirm whether or not __ is a good message
