Whether + commas

Hi!

Where should I put commas in this sentence:

The company president emphasised that it is never certain whether a strategy that now seems to be efficient will be so in the future or whether those that used to work perfectly well will still continue to do so.

Thanks for help!

I don't think this sentence needs any commas. If you think it is too long, you can insert one before "or": The company president emphasised that it is never certain whether a strategy that now seems to be efficient will be so in the future , or whether those that used to work perfectly well will still continue to do so. You can't insert it anywhere else.

  • If you think it is too long, you can insert one before "or": The company president emphasised that it is never certain whether a strategy that now seems to be efficient will be so in the future , or whether those that used to work perfectly well will still continue to do so.
  • You can't insert it anywhere else.
  • First, you are saying that the president emphasised something.
  • There you have a subject "the president" and the verb "emphasised", and you cannot separate a subject from a verb.
